It is a little bit of a special day around here at Crafty Scrappy Happy.....

because it is what I consider my 1 year blog anniversary!

And what better to do on an anniversary than

remember

and

celebrate all of the wonderful moments, crafts, friendships and connections this blog has allowed me to make!

Let me first start out by saying that if it wasn't for YOU, my wonderful friends and blog followers I would NEVER have started or continued blogging.

You are the motivation, encouragement and friendships have been and still are such a blessing to me on this blogging journey....

I am SO thankful for you!

So now, lets take a minute and reflect on where this blog started out.....

ohhhh my! I don't know why I am so embarrassed, but I am....

do you ever look back at your projects from the past and think---what in the world was I thinking?

Wellllllll yeahhhh I am doing that with quite a few of these projects!

And then some of these I am thinking I might like to try to do again and put a new spin on them!

It is fun to see that as time progressed and I kept working on my projects they kept started to improve

{thank goodness}

and I started making some new friends.

I linked up to a few parties.

And I was even a guest at a friends place!

Looking back at some of my first crafts,

I don't think I would really change a thing!

I know how much fun I had making them.

And how special they were to me....

It is always so important to reflect on where you started with a journey and then
note how much has changed.
I see nothing but improvement with my crafting and blogging journey!
I think it is also great to think about what I have learned through out the year.....
Some of the things that I have learned I wish I would have been better about right away....
maybe some of it will be good advice for some of you?!?!

Anyways here is my official last Valentines project for this year!!!

It was so simple to make and it just adds a nice little touch of love to my normal decor.

I just started out with a pile-o-vintage buttons, a vintage book and a glue gun...

Not a lot of work but kind of a sweet look right?!

I like that it isn't framed, it isn't perfect....

I just glued a random assortment of buttons into the shape and that is about it!

The fun part was finding a place to display it!!!

I tried adding it to my Mantle, and its simple Valentines decor....

and I really like it!

but then again it sits nicely on my shelf as well.... oohhh how I LOVE to decorate!!!

Hello everyone! I am here to guest post today on Crafty, Scrappy, Happy thanks to a great opportunity from Jaime! I just love her blog and I am honored to be here! My name is Stacey and my blog home is Embracing Change.

Just me

Me and my beautiful family!

I began blogging a year ago and I confess it has become a passion of mine. I really have no time for it as I am a mother ot two beautiful girls named Emma and Ana as well as a pastor's wife and Day Care Center director to over 100 kids! It's amazing how we find time to do what we love, isn't it?

I have a passion for decorating and thrifting as well as redoing and restoring unloved furniture! I found myself at a point in my life where I needed change, but didn't have the budget to do it thus my love of restoring and redoing what I had was born! I find such therapy in what I do. Painting is how I like to decompress. I have discovered that finding a bargain and restoring it to beauty is a challenge I greatly enjoy.

This piece was no different.

I managed to score a free dresser three weeks ago.

I was thrilled!

I think dressers are my favorite thing to redo.

I have redone several over the past year

including the following:

There is nothing like a beautiful dresser!

I love drastic transformations.

The beast to beauty makeovers.

I love taking the old and making it new.

That's my fun time.

So...back to the free dresser.

When I brought it home, it looked like this:

Dingy and old.

Dirty as could be.

And with a broken drawer to boot.

No problem.

I have an affinity (obsession) for the French Provincial

style so this was quite a gem!

I love her curves and sweet feminine appeal.

I quickly got ahold of my vision which is always a key part of the process and then proceeded with the redo.

I have to tell ya, I am loving how she turned out!

I hand-mixed the pink paint and used

Annie Sloan's Old White for the rest!

How does she look now?

Isn't she just delicious?

My friend Megan and I have started a business of recreating furniture and home decor called The Blessed Nest. Typically I send almost everything I recreate there, but this one is...

MINE ALL MINE!

If you have read my blog before, you know

that I name each and every piece I create.

Her name is Perfect Priscilla.

I think her personality just shines through!

And she is PERFECT for Valentine's Day as well!

I adore her...hope you do, too!

Valentines Mantle

Ohhh I love my every changing decor.

Fall was great, Christmas was fun, and now Valentines day has inspired me to mix new with old while embracing simple.

And along with seasonal changes I have also had fun painting my fake mantle

{Fantle as I like to call it}

once again....

it officially started out as a cabinet, first painted from bright red to white, and then to all gray-ish black.

But now I have added some light teal-ish blue to the mix.

I adore changing the colors and the decor every other minute.

I was wishing for a kind of incorporation of all of the things I love....

including vintage and distressed books,

old drawers and sea colored vintage bottles...

because that is what Valentines is about to me----celebrating what you love.

and so of course my love has to be a part of the theme as well.

I made the simple you and me plaque with a cut out design from my silhouette.

And I don't know if you guys noticed the sideways eight randomly sitting on its side?

Hubbie and I always and forever have been cute about writing the infinity symbol {which kind of looks like a sideways eight} on each and every note we write each other.

Sometimes when we are just sitting on the couch watching a movie he will just trace the symbol on my arm....

ohhh goodness now I am getting a little gooey on you, butttt I thought it would be neat to include the infinity with my Valentines decor.

And since I love numbers....

I like the mix of the modern mirror with the vintage frame...

nothing permanent but fun none the less!

Valentines Decor---you hold the key to my heart!

Wellllll it is almost that time of the year.....

Valentines day is right around the corner,

and so I had to embrace the holiday with a little simple decor for my living room.

Nothing fancy.

But meaningful and sweet all the same.

All I did was hand stitch the hearts with embroidery floss.

and put a little quilting batting into the middle of them to add a bit of dimension.

{with home buying on my mind----keys just had to be a part of my Valentines decor}

And just in case you were curious my whole living room is looking without an oversized Christmas tree in the corner.....

House Hunting on my Mind.

Hello friends---how are you?!

I know I have been all out slacking when it comes to blogging...

buttt I swear things are going to turn around sooner than later around here.

I was in a bit of a craft rut, but last night I sat down and had some fun.....

photos to follow I promise!!!

I am just waiting for some nice daylight to take the photos!!

Butttt until then I am 100% in house hunting mode.

Yessss hubbie and I are officially shopping for houses.....

and we are first time shoppers....

uuuuuhhhhh oooohhhh right?!

Each house that I remotely like while touring, I move myself into.....

I decorate.

I fall in love and I get emotionally attached.

I am in trouble right?!

What do you do to separate yourself....???

I think the problem is.....how do you know if you could feel at home unless you picture yourself in a home that you might buy?!

and for me that means decorating and moving in and picturing EVERYTHING......

Hummmmm......

But anyways,

Just in case you are wondering here are a few of my homes that I am currently dreaming of...

Now prepare yourself to see the potential not the immediate beauty okay?!

Starting with this "animal-head infested home"

{literally heads show up in almost each room}

but it is all about seeing potential....

beyond the existing decor....

soooooo here is what I am thinking:

"animal heads be gone"

And enter light and white mantle with cabinets at the same height so that you have LOTS of room to decorate!!!

Orrrr how about light and tall cabinets next to a darker but tall mantle?!

And did you notice that awkward space next to the family room?! {yep check the photo again and look to your right in the photo....} yep that is a game room right in the living room?!?!? nooooooo I am thinking of something more like this:

Yessss some kind of a nook would be perfect in that area right?!

And then there is the kitchen in the same home....

I think light and white for the cabinets-----yesss I would sooo paint those right on up....

with the dark counters would be great.

Andddd maybe a fun backsplash and a fun wall color would make it perfect!

Ohhhh and some new lighting right?!

Yes pendants!!!

Okay and moving on to the next home....I like to call this one the "blank canvas" house.

because really...... EVERY single wall is white.

White white white......

I like white buttttt I have some other ideas.

Starting with the bedroom.

Ohhhh this bedroom needs some spice:

yes this is perfect. every. single. detail.

but I also love the great planks that show off the high ceilings with this bedroom.

Perhaps a mix?!?!

And on to the living room of the "blank canvas home".

AMAZING but plain.

Great view of a little private lake which is what matters the most to hubbie and I buttttt it could look amazing with some loving right?!

How about some beach-y curtains like these?!?

And some ceilings like this living room?! Ohhhhhh how what a cool idea to spice up the tall ceilings instead of just painting walls!!!!

And how about these stairs?!

yes they would look amazing just like this!!!

And although this doesn't seem to come along with any of the homes I have seen so far-----

I am always keeping a look out for a space to make this happen.....ohhh how dreamy!!!!

Soooo now that you see what I am dreaming about....

what do you think?

How do I keep my head while house shopping?!

How do I stop myself from moving into each home.

The decorating in my head doesn't help me to not be attached.....

buttttt it just seems to happen....

Happy Happy Wednesday.

I am thrilled to finally be half through the week and I am REALLY looking forward to having a day off tomorrow to get all caught up andddd maybe even craft----FINALLY.....

I am going through some with drawls....!

Butttt even thought I haven't been crafting or blogging I have been busy.

I am puppy sitting the cutest little golden retriever puppy EVER.

AND

Hubbie and I are starting to house shop...... for our very FIRST house ever....

WOW that is more stressful than I could have ever imagined!

The DIY part of my sisters wedding & some special memories!

{Starting with this super super sweet idea}

So now let me explain a little bit....

The lace, ring and pendant were sewn into her dress and had SO much meaning to her!

The lace was from her mother-in-laws wedding bouquet.

The ring was my step mother's mothers wedding ring.

The mother child pendant is my mother's.

The date of the wedding was embroidered and then sewn into the dress on the day of the wedding.

I had fun taking pictures of my grandma taking time to hand stitch it in.

And finally my sister also embroidered a sweet "I love you" to her husband-to-be as well as the wedding date on his wedding tie.

And I wanted to show you the sweet wedding scene.

I love that they used enclosed lanterns for their beach wedding unity candles----

that was such a great way to avoid the candles from blowing out.

And here is the reception and dinner site----perfectly beach-y right?!

Such a beautiful set up and so personal at the same time.

I loved the hydrangeas and orchids that they used in the bouquets!

And even though this was a destination wedding, my sister is TOTALLY a "ball jar" kind of a gal soooo

ball jars made the trip from Wisconsin and were included in the decor.

Simple water, ribbon and floating candles really added to the decor!

And now for some final sweet moments and memories:

Yes it was a fun and special time.

I am so so honored and glad that I could be a part of it!!!

I have missed you---buttt ohhh how I enjoyed my week away!

My little sister got married this past week on a beach in Florida,

it was perfect.

The bride and groom were beautifully happy.

And each moment was so so special for them.

But really the wedding was special for EVERYONE involved...

everything was so intimate and personal.

Yes, I am sorry because I know I have been really really neglecting you guys lately....

BUTTTT my little baby sister is getting married this week anddd well,

I have officially decided to put all of my energy into her.

The beautiful bride.

My amazing sister.

Andddd I just really want to enjoy my family and remember each and every moment without worrying about my normal/real life....

I hope you can understand.

Thank you all for being patient with my time away and I am SO looking forward to getting back to blogging and having some fun in 2012!!!!

Hello wonderful blog friends!
How was your Christmas?! Mine was wonderful!
So so sooooo busy and wonderful and busy and just great!
My head is still spinning from all of the running.
But I feel SO blessed to have been able to spend time with my family.

Well hello friends!?

How was your week leading up to the big holiday?!

Mine was BUSY!

{In a wonderful way}

But I wanted to take a moment to share a final little craft that I originally shared with

{Everything Under the Moon's Christmas series}

I also wanted to say a final Merry Christmas because I am headed HOME to spend time with my family and to just enjoy Christmas moments....

and that means that there will be a little bloggy break in store for me.

But for today....
I am excited to share my sweet and simple FINAL Christmas craft with you!

It was simple to make all you need is:

-shipping tags

-vintage printing press letters

-a versa mark ink pad

-embossing powder

-a normal ink pad

-a heating tool

-ribbon

-a frame

-background scrapbook paper

-annnnnnd a typewriter (if you have one)

All I did was stamp the JOY with normal ink followed by the clear versa mark ink.

Then sprinkle on embossing powder and heat it with the embossing tool until you have a nice shiny sheen to your letters!

I then added "joy to the world" under the JOY big letters with my typewriter---just because anything I make with my typewriter makes me super happy.

Then I just added ribbon, to the tags and just stuck the tags to the glass of the frame with glue dots!

Sweet and simple----

I think that is what holiday decor is all about!

Christmas tour part II {Kitchen Edition} and Giveaway winner!

Well guys....

I can hardly believe that Christmas is coming so fast.

I feel like I JUST put up my holiday decor....

Is it weird that I am already getting sad that it has to come down so soon?

Ahhh butttt at least parts of it get to stay around...

Like I mentioned before I am all about WINTER decor vs. Christmas because lets face it----winter in Wisconsin lasts FOREVER! And so I might as well enjoy decorations for it!

Anyways on with my Christmas tour---{click here if you missed the living room!}.

It is NOT perfect, it is not spotless.... there is no particular "theme" or decor style....but it is home and I love it!

I LOVE advent calendars and I honestly think I have about 4 of them up this year.... I especially love the one on my island!

It just makes me happy!

Yes ohhh yes this little guy will be staying out past Christmas.... he just makes me so happy!

Talk about a mod podge right?!

Buttttt I don't care.

He is another keeper----just too cute for words right?!?!

And here is the view from the kitchen to the front door.

And just in case you were wondering the door with the white wreath----that is the door that leads to my little heaven----my craft room!

How spoiled am I to have a craft room right on the first floor?!?!

Anyways, I know my stockings aren't the most stylish or cute...but I LOVE them. They are the stockings that I grew up with. They hold such great memories and meaning to me that they are absolutely part of my decor regardless of their "style"!

Andddd finally the last little detail of my tour----my most favorite and treasured piece of decor for the holiday----yessssssss I LOVE LOVE LOVE this little plaque.

Because lets face it I am a dorky dental nerd!

And on another dorky side note:

{I also have an obscene amount of Herbies around my house also

because as you know all he wanted to be was a dentist}

Happy Happy ALMOST weekend friends!

I am SOOOO excited for this weekend because my sister-in-law {who is away for school}

is coming home tomorrow!!!!

Yayyy!

Soooo that means that we will have a fun weekend full of family time!

Sooooo I had to get my last few Christmas projects finished up so that I could be all ready to host my in-laws!

And soooo I finished up this project that I have been thinking about for some time now!

I had some fun up-cycling and refinishing a vintage sled for the winter season!

{I am all about winter decor vs Christmas decor

because it means I will get to enjoy it just that much longer}

I mixed the chalk paint colors-old white and province to make this light teal that I am so so crazy about.

I cut my words out in vinyl using my favorite cutting tool the silhouette and added the stripes by taping off the sections with plain old painters tape.

I would have never guessed that I would love the green and the teal so much together....

butt ooh how I do!

And then I did my favorite part---I distressed the piece to perfection.

And I truly think that the best part about finishing a project is finding it the perfect home.

& I found this guy

a home right in my entryway.

Welcome WELCOME!

I am SO thrilled to have you HERE at my little blog and here for my little home "tour".

Starting with my living room.

{come back tomorrow by my kitchen}

Here is my living room as seen from the entry way.

Complete with my baby.... my 10 year old baby Quincy my golden retriever.

You see she just happened to be taking a nap during my photo session and I just felt toooooo bad to make her move.

And then there is my most favorite piece.

My 25 drawer beauty!

Ohhhh aren't those vintage ice skates just amazing?!

{I am telling you----scout those out at thrift stores and garage sales....

they are the best winter decor EVER!}

ahhhh yes but back to the room.

And I must point out my fake mantle {fantle} in its black form vs its old white version.

But really the decor from the first post where I shared that I had painted my mantle hasn't changed all that much....

butttt just the same I love LOVE it!

Anddd I adore all things that remind me of the holiday season.

Including decor..... that is NOT matching but more focused on meaningful memories and all things special to the holiday.

Case and point---my Christmas tree..... it is FULL of special ornaments.

NONE of which match any type of theme or anything..... just many many wonderful memories!

And I LOVE it!

I am all about comfy.

About blankets and pillows and cuddling up.

And as a personal sidenote I am also all about dog hairs on the couch and for messed up pillows and just everything that represents a family of 2 humans and 2 dogs just enjoying time spent together!

but my living room could just NOT get away with only ONE tree.... soooo a mini tree in a vintage pitcher seemed like just the right fit!

And then there is the mantle that hasn't changed ALL that much since it had its dark makeover....

buttt still it has dressed up a bit for the season!

I like the mix of simple and shimmer that balances and makes the space seem calm and seasonal.

Anddd the best news is, I hardly bought anything NEW for the decor.....

I just mixed and matched until I felt like it looked justtttt right!

HI everyone! I'm Shannah from Just Us Four and I am so excited to be guest posting here with Jaime. Crafty, Scrappy, Happy was one of the first blogs I started reading and that turned into visiting pretty much daily. I also consider her one of my first blog friends too because I've been so fortunate to have some great comment/email conversations with her!

Today, I wanted to share with you a recent project that I worked on: my Advent calendar. I'll be honest with you though and tell you that this is definitely round 2 of the Advent calendar. I started with grand plans and UPS got in the way by delivering my Silhouette over two weeks late. So, making an advent calendar with this beautiful printers tray went out the window since I literally had 1 day to turn it around.

Yep, you read that right...one day! UPS delivered my Silhouette on November 30th! Since I have a day job + 2 kids, I knew there was no way I would be able to pull that craft off. Not to be deterred though, I hopped onto Pinterest and searched for some ideas. This one from Martha Stewart caught my eye immediately.

I didn't have that many extra socks though {I guess our dryer hasn't been very hungry!} so I decided to make it out of scrapbook paper instead. I ran down to the basement and grabbed my entire supply and headed up to the computer for some cutting on the CAMEO.

Using one of the templates that comes with the design software, I cut out 25 little gift tags in red and green paper. On the back of each one, I glued an activity for our family to do on a given day.

The activities range from the simple (i.e. sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer) to things that require a little more time (i.e. make a gingerbread house which my daughter ended up doing with her grandma!).

On the front of the cards, I added the numbers, which were cut out of white linen scrapbook paper, and various decorations like ribbon, snowflakes and glitter.

While my cards dried, I headed downstairs to the kitchen to tie my ribbon. I simply stretched mine across the top of our sliding glass door because it is right next to our kitchen table. I used the screws on the back of our curtain rod to keep it pulled tight.

Then, I used some little clothespins to attach the cards to the ribbon.

I did a pattern of the clothespins all the way down: Santa, Gingerbread Man, Snowflake, Candy...repeat until all the cards were up on the ribbon.

It's a little too long to get a complete picture but here are some more detail shots of some of the cards.

My daughter, H, has been having so much fun with it! Each day, she comes home from preschool and begs to check what is on the back of the card! Even though it wasn't what I had originally envisioned, I guess I'll call this one a craft success.

A little extra stocking stuffer gift {tag}

Hello friends!!! How was your weekend?! I hope it was WONDERFUL!

I had a great weekend!

I even got to do a little shopping {check out my shopping trip photo album via google +}----andddd I was more than a little inspired to create some Christmas gifts!

I was impressed by Scrapbook Etc. this weekend so it just had to come home with me.

Talk about great inspiration!

And my first project inspired by this shopping trip and Scrapbook Etc. Magazine were:

These super super sweet paper stockings.

I realize they used them as a sweet advent idea buttt I LOVE them for little neighbor gifts.

And gift tags!

So here is what I did:

Trace a stocking outline and cut out the two sides of the stocking.

Next I taped the stockings together {with Elmers Dot Runner} and then sewed them

{all messy and fun-like}.

And since I am being all personal about my shopping experience I thought I would also show you my work space!

I used the fabric as the bow for the stocking.

I used the brown ink to distress the sides of the stocking and to distress the tag

on the inside of the stocking.

I used Elmers Glue Spots to attach the fabric bow to the top of the stocking.

I used my most favorite craft tool---my vintage typewriter to make them personal!!

A Up-cycle Table & A Stencil Giveaway

And getting a little crafty while I am at it!

I had some fun with an old grundy table...

That is now one of my favorite little tables.

Oohhhh my heart just flutters a little bit when I see the curves of this table.

And how about this stenciled top?

This is one of my first experiences with stenciling and ohhh I loved it!

Are you ready for a good old fashioned BEFORE photo?!

Yes in all of it's stained up bright red glory....

this table was needing some help!

Here is what I did!!

FIRST:

chalk paint (old white + a bit of province).

Sand sand sand.

Andddd stare for a moment.... because that looks much much better.

Okay and then get back to work.

Stain and prime (I used an all in one).

And here is my official Staining tip---I wear disposable gloves and use a little scrap of a towel that I throw away after.

And I am sure you know this tip buttt---- be sure to go with the grain when you are staining!

Anddd let it DRY.

Finally grab your stencil and get back to work with that good old chalk paint!

Roll on and remove the stencil.

Finally just go around the edges and do a little "white washing"

to get a nice bled from the sides to the top.

Much better than the red right?

And I just really am loving this paisley patterned stencil!

It is so fun and whimsical.

I can't stop thinking about where else I would like to use it!

ahhhh but this is good for now!!!
