My first official fall inspired project---a candy bowl

Well friends, it is amazing to me how quickly summer turns to fall---or at least our weather here in Wisconsin does!!!
Soo naturally I am left fighting the change of season but enjoying it all at the same time.
I am sad to see the beautiful summer go, but wow am I enjoying sleeping with the windows and doors open!  And I have to admit I just adore hot apple cider...soo I will embrace the change that is in the air--crafty and decor wise as well!

Anyways on to my project!

I wanted to make my own fall themed candy dish.
I used my all time favorite crafty material---vintage encyclopedias
and chose words have to do with parts of fall that I love.
(You will most defiantly find football amongst the fall events that I love---I think you can make that out in the picture below too)!
I just love to make things special and personalized!

anddd of course it holds my favorite fall candy
oooh candy corn I LOVE you!

and in case you want to make your own here is my little sweet and simple tutorial.

What you need:
-clear dish
-sand paper
-vintage thin paper of your choice (I used encyclopedia paper and I picked fall themed words/pages)
-mod podge
-spray paint

The first step is to mod podge your paper onto the bowl
I then sanded the edges or rim of the bowl to give the paper a finished look.
I also sealed the paper with multiple layers of mod podge to make sure a little water wouldn't hurt it!
(that is a good point I should mention I would only spot clean this guy on the outside.)
(at this point you could for sure stop....I thought that the bowl looked unfinished so I decided to spray paint the outside.)

Don't ya think the spray paint just adds something?!

Here is how I did that part---

can you believe that I have my very own "spray paint cardboard" that I always use when I am doing projects!?!
I guess that is one way to know you are an official DIY dork!

I must add I usually multitask with my spray painting :o)
But I just flipped it and sprayed it and it worked fine!

Happy Happy fall my friends!

MMM! Candy corn! My friends all make fun of me b/c I love candy corn so much! You make projects look so easy, btw. & it's so funny that you have your own cardboard for spray painting cuz I do too! Mine isn't as pretty as yours though-it's about ready to retire haha! Thanks for sharing. Send some of that Wisconsin fall weather to Florida, please! Our "fall" doesn't start cooling down 'til November *ahhhh*

How cute! I love it! And ever since a college roommate introduced me to candy corn mixed with salted peanuts, I always leave a dish of them out during the fall (which I think I eat singlehandedly). Have you tried that combo? So delicious!

First ~ I agree with Rachel, you have to try the candy corn with peanuts...YUM-E. I also have 3 or 4 or 5 pieces of cardboard used as my spray paint base. And I also have one of those..what do ya call it? Fruit bowl? Haven't got around to painting mine...yet. My only questions is the bowl food safe? Just curious but it is definitely beautiful!

Oh, my goodness.... after spray painting some things on my saved, used and abused cardboard last night... I see that you have your "own" spray painting cardboard, too. Who knew.... I need to invest in some more spray paint cause my cardboard is mostly black, red and yellow. My outdoor projects for the summer were very bright with black for the Ooomph. Love your blog.

I've never done a bowl before, Jaime, but you make it look slick and simple enough to try.

Thanks for the encouragement! (not to find a clear SMOOTH bowl that isn't all carved and stuff)

Thanks for sharing :)
