Alright friends, here is my project for round one of American Crafter----
It was halloween themed this week!
Yikeeesss I am so so so scared and excited all at the same time...there is just some kind of scary vulnerability that goes along with "putting yourself out there" with your crafting....
I am trying to be brave!
Anyways, it would mean so so much to me if you would come over to the contest and check out the other amazing projects and vote for your favorite!! I promise I would not be upset if you didn't vote for me...I would just be happy if you would check out the AMAZING competition!
And anyways I am SO happy you are here visiting
Let me explain my project!
Like I said, this week was a"Halloween Themed" project...
but first,
Let me back up a little...
SOOO I got a little excited this year and went ahead and decorated my actual mantle in fall decor last week anddd immediately started to regret skipping the doing a Halloween themed mantle....
anddd then the American Crafter contest came around....
andddd I was inspired to decorate and incorporate my love for thrifty decor with a mantle "like" display on my favorite piece of furniture---
my chippy and ohhh so perfectly Halloween-ish Buffet...
I didn't spend more than $5 dollars on my decor---I just used what I had and transformed the things I did buy---because I am all about being thrifty but still enjoying the "look" of the decor!!!!
I found these letters at Michaels.
The black letters were on clearance from the dollar section of the store (woohhooo!)
and the white letters were $2.50 each buttt I had two 40% off coupons---score right?!
I got super excite because I really wanted to make a trick or treat themed decor----
and decorating my inexpensive letters was the perfect way to get the "treat" part of trick or treat!!
So the "treat" part of the Trick or Treat was the real "project" I would say----
I had some fun dressing up the letters using not just paper but fabric, buttons, feathers and yess a little crow!
I decided to do something like this because I am suddenly really enjoying decorating wreaths
and I got to thinking why can't you decorate letters like you do wreaths!
Sooo I had lots of fun making each letter unique and fun!!!!
I have to say that I basically just used the things that I love to decorate----
and I know that I have really professed my love for my typewriter already---ohhh and it is wonderful not only for crafty uses but also for decor!
:o)
I used my silhouette to cut out the "Trick" and then tried to create a little funny moment with the two crows...yayyy because I have a dorky sense of humor like that!
I have all kinds of old bottles that attribute to the spooky feel of the decor---I should note that half of the bottles are vintage mouth wash bottles that I adore much much more than the rest for obvious reasons---sighhhhh! Only me right?!
What do you think?! Kind of fun right? Ohhh goodness I keep thinking it isn't the best butttt I am glad that I am part of the American Crafter contest and that this is what I came up with because I am enjoying the look...and that is all that counts right?!
Anyhowwww
I am linking up to a few of these wonderful parties!
And once again,
come over and vote for your favorite project---please please please?!

ReplyDeleteHi Jaime, Just went and voted =)
ReplyDeleteI love your Halloween display!
ReplyDeleteI voted! I love the sideboard (British for a buffet?. I have to admit, I feel the real need for a big old typewriter, yours looks fabulous, and those dollar store crows/ravens are wonderful for the money. I have 2 on my Halloween tree right now.
ReplyDeleteYou know you've got my vote!!! Not many of the entries were that inspiring, I have to admit. A close second might be the Poe inspired Halloween, but yours takes the cake! You are so lucky to have collected so many interesting items like the typewriter to use in decorating. Great!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cool, love the old bottles and the vintage typewriter. Great vignette! I would love it if you would stop by and share this at my linky party starting Wed.
ReplyDeleteGreat display! The typewriter is really cool!
ReplyDeleteI love it! My favorite parts are the "Trick" on the mirror and "OR" in the old typewriter! Very clever!
