I did something kind of crazy.

Hello friends!  Happy Happy Monday!
I am excited and a little nervous to show you what I did this past week....
You MIGHT think I am CRAZY!

Do you remember its sweet vintage beach-y cottage decor?
Well I know that you may have seen the new looks my mantle got for the fall...

Well......
I made a change once again.
I have NOT yet worked on decorating my mantle for the winter holiday...
That will be happening SOON...
but until then I made a kind of big change to my little FA-NTLE.

I gave it a paint job.
Graphite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint was my friend this week!!!

I think the dark made a huge HUGE change to the look.
My tastes are ALWAYS changing but I think I am really kind of becoming a little crazy about the simple sleek look of the dark look.
My eyes go straight to the mantle----where as before the mantle was just one of many things in the little living room space.  And that my friends is just what I was trying to accomplish!

Alright----I am ready.... lets get some feedback from you!
What do you think?
White is right or bold and black?!

Regardless----I do have to admit that it is fun having a fake mantle because it means I get to make crazy changes AS OFTEN AS I WANT.....
I mean who knows maybe it will be another crazy color a month from now!

{I am linking up at some of these amazing parties}

I know this might shock you coming from a self proclaimed color crazy, but I think I like the white better. Don't get me wrong, the black is divine too. I just really loved it when you had the beachy theme. But then again, you haven't decorated for the holidays. It will look amazing on that backdrop. Happy Thanksgiving!

I am all for going a little crazy! And what a fabulous job you did!! I am kind of leaning towards the white more because I love the crisp and bright feel of it but I have no doubt that this will look STUNNING for the Christmas season! And like you, I go from these dark to light tastes but I always end up going towards white in the long run. But truly...I can already tell that everything you touch turns to all kinds of PRETTY! :)

The jury is still out on this one. Your feathers are lost with the dark background. It might really pop in the room and maybe with some light colored accents but it's not really be showcased yet. Did you leave the vinyl on when you painted so you could peel it off and reveal a crisp cream/ white statement?

This is hard Jaime! I like them both. They have two completely different looks! I think you can go either way, just depends on how you dress it up. :) Beautiful job friend!

Every time you redo your mantle I fall in love with it all over again lol. I really love the black, it works so well with the holidays, and that wreath and the mirror....oh goodness, it's simply fantastic!

Since ya asked =) The white looked chippy, shabby and aged. It had more character. The dark isn't bad, it just looks a little flat. Maybe condsider a very light dry brush effect to add some depth and a more distressed feel? I'm sure once you get your holiday decor it will liven it up some too! Plus, we can't see the whole room and I know in person is probably a lot different =)

It looks absolutely STUN.NING. in the black, which I think is exactly what you want for the holidays!! My mouth literally dropped open when I saw it, you are so brave! Gorgeous! That being said, I think I do prefer it white tho cause I loved your beachy themed, chippy, aged look! :) But girl it is YOUR mantel and you paint it whatever you like and be proud of it cause you're awesome!!!

I admire your "no guts, no glory" approach. I tend to get attached to looking at the same style forever, so good for you. I'm thinking I'm agreeing with Shannon@FoxHollowCottage. Her comments are reflective of my initial thoughts and I agree that I can't see the whole room in view to make a concrete statement of the whole thing. I will say, it certainly does pop if that's to be the focal point of the room!

It is gorgeous!! Bold and black is wonderful. The winter decorations will surely pop up against the black. I wish I could get Annie Sloan's paint in our area.

The black definitely makes it stand out as a focal point. I have to tell you that I just love the fact that you are not afraid to change it up. I too am always repainting, rearranging, rethinking everything and it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I can imagine some light & bright accessories to really stand out against the black. You go girl!

Looks great!!! I like the boldness of the black and the simple decorations. Too much just creates clutter.

Hmm... I totally fell in love with the white chippy and still have a fondness for it. But once your Christmas decor is up, it may be just perfect with the black. I applaud your bravery in changing it up! This coming from a girl who has never changed her mantel color :)
